Piggies & Toes - Sixth Title Published in the Books With No Pictures Series... By Sage Merriman

... Testing an Experimental Format in Children’s Book Publishing

From the Amazon product page:

Book Description:

In PIGGIES & TOES, a familiar five-line nursery rhyme runs wild... turns in unexpected directions... and keeps going.... It’s time to wiggle some toes—remove shoes and socks from the little feet in your life—and start reading.

PIGGIES & TOES is published in the Books with No Pictures Series. As you might expect, books in this series are pictureless but maintain the familiar format of the standard picturebook. Here’s why: For beginning readers (who are used to being read to), the standard picturebook often provides the most comfortable frame of reference. Because the picturebook context is so well understood, removing the pictures (and making no other changes) draws attention to the words and shines a bright light on the path to reading.

Sage Merriman is the children’s book pen name of former small press editor and publisher, Ryan Petty. Long ago and far away, Ryan was the proprietor of Cold Mountain Press, a literary publishing house in Austin, Texas. Among the respected names he published were Allen Ginsberg, William Stafford, Wendell Berry, Robert Bly, Denise Levertov, and two future National Poets Laureate: Ted Kooser and Donald Hall.
